Mikhail's Story

Together, We Climb

Mikhail Martin and the rest of his crew are on a mission to bring diversity to rock climbing in the outdoor space. They want to show people of color how rewarding rock climbing and travel can be.

Bringing Diversity to the Outdoor Community

Mikhail Martin is the co-founder of Brothers of Climbing, an organization dedicated to bringing diversity, inclusion, and more representation to the rock climbing community. He loves climbing and wants to share that with the world. His mission is to show and teach people of color how to rock climb and show them that that they can get out there and do it too.

When Mikhail was a child, he recalls that being outside meant freedom. It meant spending afternoons riding bikes and exploring the outdoors but within the limitations of his own neighborhood. When he started rock climbing, he didn’t understand then how the experience would change his life.

There are so many different walks of life and different points of view, but you’ll never know that unless you go see them for yourself.

When I started rock climbing, I never imagined what I would find and the people I would meet. When you grow up in a city, you live in a bubble and you think that life is really only one way when there are so many different walks of life and different points of view but you’ll never know that unless you go see it for yourself.
